Spark #03 – Why animations are the fastest way to supercharge your business strategy
If attention spans really are getting shorter, we need to make our messages work harder – and faster. Let’s talk animations...
It’s said the attention span of the average human (whoever that is!) has shrunk to nine seconds. That’s allegedly less than a goldfish.*
The thing is, attention span tends to be measured by how long people spend viewing something – whether that’s a news article, social media post or the like.
When you consider how many hyperlinks, autoplay videos and dancing cats are vying for our attention, it’s no wonder we get distracted
Let’s for a second humour the goldfish scientists. Imagine we do switch off in nine seconds. How does this then sit with the fact millions of people regularly bash through an entire boxset in a day, or have devoured nine hours of the Lord of the Rings trilogy?
It’s because such visual delights offer a feast for the senses. The narratives are engaging, and exciting. The images, music and sound effects hook the eyes and ears.
Moving media creates movement
It’s the visual delight and stories that make animations the queen of mediums for bringing all sorts of IC and EE themes to life. From wellbeing and inclusion and diversity (I&D) to safety protocols and culture.
In our experience though, there’s one area where they’re particularly persuasive: business strategy. See what we mean in the examples below.
Shortcut your way into people’s long-term memory
Animated videos strip out complexity, turn 500 words into a single frame, reduce business speak and show people exactly what they need to know – without losing meaning.
Moving images find their way more easily into the long-term memory – it positively sucks them up and hangs onto them indefinitely. That’s because images are processed 60,000 times faster than text.
Add to this the fact our eyes can register a whopping 36,000 visual messages an hour and you start to understand why animations might just be your best go-to buddy to communicate business strategy.
The Spark of an idea, a feeling, a sense, a curiosity.
It’s the best catalyst for creativity, connection and breakthrough thinking.
This is your weekly spark – who knows what it might ignite for you.
