Fuelling better communication through imagination
How often do you dive into your inner world?
At H&H we’re big on feeding imagination. We love helping you to see what creativity you can conjure up, ready to tackle new challenges and spark new ideas. So, in turn, you can nurture happier, more productive teams.
Want to focus your mind? Try closing your eyes.
We’re visual creatures. Our brains are wired for images, and this engages up to almost 50% of our brain. We can process this information over 60,000 times faster than text. Think of all those neurons flying around at top speed! But what happens when we take a second out of our day, and shut out the world?
Compared with sight, our other senses, like touch and taste, consume a fraction of that energy. So when you close your eyes you immediately free up a large amount of brainpower. And when this happens, your brain also has to work a little differently and deploy imagination – or the mind’s eye – to retrieve details, dream up ideas, or find answers to challenging problems.
Our imagination is limitless. And it’s essential to human evolution, enabling us to consider different scenarios from those we see in front of us. It helps us to navigate obstacles, better understand others’ perspectives, and even problem solve.
So why not tap into your inner world, and take a look through your mind’s eye? You might just surprise yourself.

Do: ‘Dear Future Me’
Something magical happens when we allow ourselves to think ‘what if’. The endless possibilities, and the freedom to do something different. Grab your crystal ball and visualise your most daring destiny - then send it to your future self.

Play: Lego
Why should play time be reserved for little ones? We held a dedicated Lego session during a recent away day and it was transformative! Focusing on a manual task helps the brain switch off. Afterwards we felt so refreshed, inspired and sharper than ever.

Listen: Cloudscapes
Life’s all about perspectives but how often do we keep our heads firmly glued to our devices? So, I’m making a point of looking up and cloud gazing. For me it’s part meditation, part reminder of the sheer scale of the world.

Watch: A healing music video
There’s so much inspiration to be found in the everyday. This documentary made me stop in my tracks – seeing the impact music can have on the brain, and what it has the power to unlock in our memories and imaginations, was nothing short of extraordinary.
