An innovative approach to leadership communication
As an employee engagement agency, one of the opportunities we’re often asked to focus on is creating effective leadership communication.
Leaders have a significant impact on the culture of an organisation. Their words, actions and behaviours directly influence how motivated and engaged people are. The way leaders present in the workplace – virtual and face to face – plays a huge part in how employees feel at work – and what they deliver.
And when it comes to times of change, leaders are often at the forefront of delivering powerful and effective change communications.
In a world that feels faster moving than ever before, it’s not enough for leaders to simply keep up with the changes around them. To make sure their teams are engaged, inspired and – crucially – happy, it’s critical that leaders have the skills that reflect the evolving needs and demands of the modern workforce.
At H&H, we’re proud to enjoy a longstanding, collaborative partnership with East Riding of Yorkshire Council. One of the highlights of this partnership has been Leadership in the Spotlight: a transformational 12-month leadership programme that’s helping the region’s largest employer become more agile, diverse and inclusive. And it all comes down to authentic, effective communication.
After all, to nurture trust, leaders need to be authentic and open. And to bring the best out in their people, they must understand what drives them personally as leaders as well as their teams.
This video from the Inspiring Workplaces Summer Series features H&H’s Kay Vessey and the council’s Jayne Wilcock, who talk openly about how an innovative approach guided leaders on a journey of self-discovery – one which challenged them to dial up their strengths and embrace their differences. Giving them the confidence to lead and communicate a way that powerfully struck a chord with their diverse teams.
